How To Find Us

 

Getting to the island:

Directions by road from East Cowes, Yarmouth and Fishbourne

Disembark the ferry and follow the road up the hill, straight on at the mini roundabout and follow the main road which bears left.

  • Follow this road for about 2 miles (you will pass Osborne House on your left) Straight on at the next roundabout, and then at the major roundabout turn left towards Ryde.
  • Take the second right (B3056) signposted Sandown, Butterfly World and Steam Railway.
  • After about half mile, straight on at the small roundabout and follow the road for a couple of miles. You will pass Briddlesford Farm Shop then the Civic Amenity Site, both on the right. Then go straight on at the roundabout and straight on at the traffic light junction with The Hare and Hounds pub on the left.
  • After the entrance to Arreton Manor, turn left at the junction - in the direction of Sandown. You will pass Arreton Barns Country Park, White Lion  pub, a Suzuki dealer, Wight Salads Group, The Fighting Cocks and Jubilee Garden Centre.
  • At Apse Heath, turn left towards Winford and Alverstone. Follow this road through Queens Bower and Alverstone and into Adgestone. The road becomes single track with passing places and has several sharp bends. Beware walkers, cyclists, rabbits and red squirrels by day and badgers or foxes by night!
  • There are a couple of left forks along the way, but ignore them and follow the ‘main’ road.
  • You will eventually pass over a rumble surface and then a double pinch point formed in railway sleepers painted red and white.
  • After about ¼ mile, there is sign on the left saying ‘no walkway for 800 yards’ and soon afterwards a red brick house and a sign on the right which says ‘footpath B51’. After the next left bend there is a narrow lane on the left just before a white house called ‘Highleigh’ with a brick wall at the front (if you miss it, turn round at the junction to Lake on the right after about 200 yards, just after the post box). We are the first house up the lane. Please park in either of the spaces by the back door. The front door is along the timber decking via the path and steps to the left of the garage.

 

Directions by road from Yarmouth:

  • Disembark the ferry and follow the road in the direction of Newport.
  • When you get to Newport, turn right and follow the A3020 towards Sandown.
  • After 3-4 miles you will come to a sharp right bend with a road off to the left. Keep to the main road towards Sandown.
  • You will pass Arreton Barns Country Park, White Lion  pub, a Suzuki dealer, Wight Salads Group, The Fighting Cocks and Jubilee Garden Centre.

  • Turn right at the traffic lights and follow the signs towards Newport.
  • Just before you get to the main roundabout (signposted Newport, East Cowes and Southampton via car ferry), turn left towards Sandown (B3056), Butterfly World and Steam Railway.

Getting to the island by train

If you wish to travel on foot or by bicycle, getting to the island by train couldn’t be easier. Go to www.nationalrail.co.uk and you will find connections to Lymington Pier, Southampton Central, Southsea, Portsmouth and Portsmouth Harbour. Both Red Funnel and Wightlink are part of the national rail network so tickets can be purchased to include the ferry crossing from any railway station, but through-ticketing is not currently available via internet bookings.

At Lymington Pier and Portsmouth Harbour, the train delivers you right to the ferry. At Southampton Central, there is a free bus service between the station and ferry approximately every 15 minutes. From either Portsmouth or Southsea stations, there is a 'Hoverbus' service to the Hovertravel terminal. From Ryde Pier there is a train to Lake which is less than 2 miles from High Pines.

If you are travelling on foot, and with prior notice, we can arrange to meet you at any of the islands ferry ports or stations.

 

Getting to the island by air

If you are intending to fly into Southampton International Airport, you can take a short train ride from Southampton Airport (Parkway) to Southampton Central. At Southampton Central, there is a free bus service between the station and the Red Funnel ferries approximately every 15 minutes. With prior notice, we can arrange to meet you at either Cowes or East Cowes.

Whilst there are currently no commercial flights into either Bembridge or Sandown airports (both of which are close-by), we do of course welcome private pilots!
